Introduction to China Tea Ceremony: A Slow Ceremony for Busy Life
Tea ceremony is a kind of wisdom to slow down
The essence of China tea ceremony is not the complicated rules, but the focus on the present. In a fast-paced life, a few minutes of making a cup of tea for yourself is a rare relaxation and healing. You don't need to be a tea expert or expensive utensils. As long as you are willing to stop, the tea ceremony will be open to you. All it teaches us is to withdraw our attention from the hustle and bustle and give it back to ourselves at the moment.
These are all you need to get started
- A teapot, or a cover bowl (a cover bowl is more versatile and easier to feel the changes in tea soup)
- A few small tea cups
- The loose tea you like
- Hot water (different water temperatures are used for different teas: green tea is about 80 degrees, oolong black tea is above 95 degrees)
- A tea filter and tea sea (Gongdao Cup), optional for novices
Four steps to start your tea-tasting ceremony
First step thermostat: Rinse the teapot and cup with hot water to clean and warm it, allowing the aroma of tea to be released better.
Step 2: Pour tea: Add appropriate amount of tea leaves, wake up the tea first (rinse quickly and discard), and wake up the tea leaves.
The third step is brewing: Inject hot water at the right water temperature and wait for a moment to allow the contents to slowly stretch.
The fourth step is tasting: Take a slow sip and feel the aroma of tea spreading in your mouth layer by layer, from the tip of your tongue to the bottom of your throat.
A pit that novices often step on
- water temperature is too high: Green tea will be scalded with boiling water and become bitter; the most important thing is to adjust the temperature according to tea.
- Soak for too long: If I forget to make the soup before making it, the whole pot will be bitter; it will be more stable to make the soup quickly with a small pot.
- Throw in too much tea: It is better to have less than more. It is safer and better to drink lightly.
Make drinking tea an anchor point in daily life
You don't have to pursue perfection or buy a complete set. The important thing is to slow down the pace during the process of making and tasting tea. A cup in the morning to wake you up, a cup in the afternoon to breathe, and a cup in the late night to soothe your nerves-tea can become several anchors of stability throughout the day. This is the gift that Oriental life aesthetics gives to modern people: not more, but more focus.
From drinking alone to hosting guests
Tea ceremony also connects relationships. Three or five friends come, spread out a tea banquet, and chat while taking a sip, which is much more comfortable than swiping your mobile phone. A simple tea set can turn an ordinary party into a warm gathering.
